Ultramarines Blue Paint Review

Ultramarines Blue is a rich, deep blue paint from the Citadel Colour range that provides excellent coverage and a smooth, matte finish. It is an acrylic-based paint that is perfect for miniature painting and is a staple color in any painter’s palette. The pigment in this paint is finely ground, providing a strong foundation for building up highlights and shadows on models. It is a beginner-friendly paint that can be used as a base coat or for layering and shading, making it a versatile addition to any miniature painter’s collection.

What Space Marine armies to paint with Ultramarines Blue

There are many Space Marine armies in the Warhammer 40K universe that can be painted using Ultramarines Blue. However, I would recommend the following three based on the lore, popularity, and aesthetics:

  • Ultramarines: This is the most obvious choice since Ultramarines Blue is the primary color of their armor. They are one of the most well-known and respected Space Marine Chapters, and their blue and gold color scheme is iconic in the Warhammer 40K community.
  • Blood Angels: Blood Angels are a popular Space Marine Chapter that has a unique color scheme that complements Ultramarines Blue. Their red and blue contrast each other, making for a striking combination. They are known for their close combat prowess, so painting their armor with Ultramarines Blue could make for an interesting contrast to their melee weapons.
  • Space Wolves: The Space Wolves are a Space Marine Chapter with a distinct Viking-inspired aesthetic. They have a gray-blue armor color scheme that would be complemented by Ultramarines Blue, and it could be used to add some variety and depth to their color scheme. Space Wolves are also known for their ferocity in battle and could be painted using Ultramarines Blue for a more cold and calculating look.

Ultramarines Blue Colour Schemes & Combinations

When using Ultramarines Blue in miniature painting, it’s important to find Citadel Colour paints that complement it and create a balanced color scheme.

  • Mechanicus Standard Grey is an excellent option for a neutral mid-tone color that can be used for highlighting and shading.
  • Retributor Armour is a metallic gold shade that adds richness and depth to armor details. It pairs well with Ultramarines Blue and can be used for edge highlighting and accent details.
  •  Finally, Mephiston Red is a bold and vibrant shade that can be used for armor details such as trim and insignia, creating a striking contrast with the blue.

By combining these colors with Ultramarines Blue, miniature painters can create a cohesive and visually interesting Space Marine army.
