If you’re tired of decimating your friends on the Warhammer 40K tabletop and fancy a change of scenery, Boltgun lets you unleash virtual carnage against all sorts of demons.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, the new first-person shooter game, takes players on a journey to the grimdark universe of Warhammer 40K.

The game revolves around the idea of combining the classic boomer-shooter genre of Doom with the Warhammer 40K universe to create an immersive experience.

Named after the weapon Space Marines and Sisters of Battle employ in war, the .75 caliber gun shoots massive bolts that explode inside their target.

The game’s storyline follows a Space Marine who has crash-landed, and his squad is dead. Players must navigate through the mountains and factories of Graia, a world that produces Titan mechs for the Imperium.

The game’s lore ties into the larger Warhammer 40K universe with cutscenes where an Inquisitor briefs the Space Marine on the task at hand. Boltgun also follows the events of 2011’s Space Marine, where the Ultramarine Captain Titus stopped an Ork WAAAGH! and a Chaos incursion.

Here’s the reveal trailer:

Boltgun strikes a balance between being silly and serious. The game includes a dedicated taunt button that has the protagonist Space Marine yell phrases like “For the Emperor!” or “Purge the Heretic!” at enemies.

Players can take their time to explore levels and find secrets like vortex grenades and powerful upgrades. The game also features a range of enemy designs, including Pink and Blue Horrors of Tzeentch and Chaos Space Marines decked out in armor.

For players who want an easier experience, Boltgun offers accessibility options to become invulnerable or unlock the entire library of levels.

The game’s higher difficulties offer a challenge to fans of the genre, while still appealing to Warhammer 40K enthusiasts who want to tour the game’s grimdark universe of only war.
