This revelation comes on the heels of a hint in the recent Adeptus Custodes Codex, which first suggested the possibility of female Custodians.
The Warhammer Community has addressed the surprise many fans expressed, noting that “Custodians can be any gender” and emphasizing that there are many aspects of the Warhammer universe that have not been explicitly explored before.
“Harvest” showcases Custodian Kyrus in action, demonstrating that her capabilities and devotion to the Emperor of Mankind are indistinguishable from her male counterparts.
The episode, set on the doomed world of Ystrad, features a classic Warhammer 40k scenario with multiple factions, including Space Marines and Tyranids, converging in conflict.
While this development has sparked discussions within the Warhammer community, it represents a relatively minor adjustment to the established lore.
Here’s what the Warhammer Community Blog post said about the character:
Tyrith Shiva Kyrus (the first three of a long list of honorific names earned fighting for the Emperor) has the privilege of being our first portrayal of a female Custodian Guard since the recent revelation that Custodians can be any gender. This fact came as a real surprise to many, since it wasn’t something previously explored. That, in and of itself, isn’t a particularly unusual thing for Warhammer 40,000 and its lore; there are simply loads of things the Warhammer Studios have never expressly stated, whether that’s ruling them in or out.
