How to paint the Thornback Brood set
- Step 1: Basecoat the Chitin Armor
Begin by basecoating the chitin armor of the Thornback Brood with a rich purple color, like Genestealer Purple. Use a medium-sized brush for smooth coverage, ensuring the paint reaches all the intricate details of the carapace. - Step 2: Shade the Chitin Armor
Apply a shade, such as Druchii Violet, over the purple chitin armor to add depth and definition. Use a fine detail brush to carefully apply the shade into the recesses and crevices of the armor, enhancing the shadows. - Step 3: Highlight the Chitin Armor
Once the shade has dried, highlight the raised areas of the chitin armor with a lighter purple shade, like Naggaroth Night. Use a fine detail brush to pick out the edges and contours of the carapace, creating a subtle gradient effect. - Step 4: Basecoat the Skin
For the Thornback Brood’s skin, choose a pale white color, such as Ulthuan Grey. Apply the basecoat evenly to the exposed skin areas, using thin layers and multiple coats if necessary for smooth coverage. - Step 5: Shade the Skin
Apply a shade specifically designed for pale skin tones, like Reikland Fleshshade, to add depth and realism to the skin. Apply the shade selectively to the skin areas, allowing it to flow naturally and accentuate the shadows. - Step 6: Highlight the Skin
Once the shade has dried, highlight the prominent features of the skin with a lighter white color, such as White Scar. Use a fine detail brush to carefully pick out the edges and details of the skin, adding subtle highlights for a lifelike appearance. - Step 7: Fine Details
Add additional colors or details to other elements of the Thornback Brood, such as the eyes, claws, or any other accessories, using appropriate paints to enhance the overall appearance. For example, paint the eyes with a bright red shade like Evil Sunz Scarlet to make them stand out. - Step 8: Varnish
Apply a matte varnish to the entire model to protect the paintwork and provide a uniform finish. This step will ensure your beautifully painted Thornback Brood stays protected during battles and showcases your skillful work.
