On the TableTop

The Shining Spears embody the legendary heroes of Aeldari mythology, mounted on jetbikes and wielding their formidable laser lances. This kit allows you to assemble a unit of Shining Spears, with each warrior riding a jetbike armed with twin shuriken catapults and equipped with a deadly laser lance. Customize your unit by building one as a Shining Spears Exarch, who can wield a star lance or paragon sabre and a shimmershield for added protection. The Exarch’s jetbike can be enhanced with a shuriken cannon, and you have the choice of four heads for the Exarch and the option to use helmeted or unhelmeted heads for each Shining Spear.

What’s in the Shining Spears box

  • x84 plastic components with which you can assemble three Shining Spears
  • x3 60mm flying bases, each with two ball-and-socket stems.

How to paint the Shining Spears set

  1. Step 1: Base Coat the Armor and Jetbikes
Using White Scar, paint the armor of the Shining Spears riders and the bodies of the jetbikes. Apply thin, even coats, allowing each layer to dry before adding the next, until you achieve full coverage.
  2. Step 2: Paint the Blue Details
Use a blue paint, like Baharroth Blue or Temple Guard Blue, to paint the top of the helmets, details on the flags, and the details on the jetbikes. Apply the blue color carefully and with a small brush to ensure precision.
  3. Step 3: Paint the Lances
Paint the lances held by the Shining Spears with a black color, such as Abaddon Black. Apply thin layers and focus on the shafts of the lances, leaving the energy tips for later steps.
  4. Step 4: Paint the Gold Details
Using a gold paint, like Retributor Armor, paint small details on the models, such as ornaments, buckles, and any other decorative elements. Take your time and use a small brush for accuracy.
  5. Step 5: Highlight the Armor and Jetbikes
To add depth and definition to the white armor and jetbikes, mix a light grey color with a touch of white. Use this mixture to highlight the raised edges and contours of the armor plates and jetbike bodies.
  6. Step 6: Paint the Energy Tips of the Lances
Using a bright energy color, such as a vibrant blue or green, paint the energy tips of the lances. Apply thin layers to create a glowing effect.
  7. Step 7: Apply Washes
Apply a black wash, like Nuln Oil, to the recessed areas of the model to enhance the shadows and add depth. Be careful around the blue and gold details to avoid unwanted smudging.
  8. Step 8: Apply Varnish
To protect your painted Shining Spears and ensure their durability on the tabletop, apply a coat of varnish. Use a matte varnish to maintain a natural finish or a gloss varnish for a shiny effect. Follow the instructions on the varnish bottle and apply it evenly over the entire model, including the base. Allow the varnish to dry completely before handling the miniatures.
