What’s in the Old One Eye’s Carnifex Brood box

How to paint the Old One Eye’s Carnifex Brood set

  1. Step 1: Basecoat the Chitin Armor
Start by basecoating the chitin armor of the Carnifex models with a dark purple color, like Naggaroth Night. Use a large brush for efficient coverage.
  2. Step 2: Shading the Chitin Armor
Apply a shade, such as Druchii Violet or Carroburg Crimson, to the chitin armor to add depth and enhance the shadows. Use a medium-sized brush and apply the shade selectively in the recesses.
  3. Step 3: Highlight the Chitin Armor
Once the shade has dried, highlight the raised areas of the chitin armor with a lighter purple color, such as Xereus Purple. Use a fine detail brush to carefully pick out the edges and contours for a more vibrant look.
  4. Step 4: Basecoat the Skin
For the Carnifex’s skin, choose a red color, like Khorne Red, and apply it evenly to the exposed areas. Use thin layers and multiple coats if needed to achieve a smooth and consistent coverage.
  5. Step 5: Shading the Skin
To add depth to the red skin, apply a shade designed for red tones, such as Carroburg Crimson. Apply the shade selectively to the recesses and crevices of the skin, allowing it to flow naturally and create shadows.
  6. Step 6: Highlight the Skin
Once the shade has dried, highlight the raised areas of the skin with a lighter red color, like Evil Sunz Scarlet. Use a fine detail brush to carefully pick out the prominent features, such as muscle definition and facial details, adding subtle highlights.
  7. Step 7: Detailing
Add additional colors or details to other elements of the Carnifex models, such as the eyes, claws, and accessories, using appropriate colors to enhance the overall appearance. For example, you can use Mephiston Red for the eyes and Leadbelcher for the claws.
  8. Step 8: Varnish
To protect the paintwork and provide a uniform finish, apply a matte varnish to the entire model. This step ensures the durability of your paint job and helps preserve the colors over time.
  9. Step 9: Basing (Optional)
You can also consider basing your Carnifex models to match your gaming table or army theme. Add texture to the base, paint it in suitable colors, and add grass tufts or other scenic elements for a finishing touch.
