How to paint the KV128 Stormsurge set
- Step 1: Base Coat
Start by applying a base coat of White Scar to the entire armor of the KV128 Stormsurge. Use a smaller brush to carefully paint the grey details using Mechanicus Standard Grey. Pay attention to the smaller areas and lines on the miniature to ensure clean and precise application. - Step 2: Black Details
Next, paint the black details, like the legs and stabilizers of the Stormsurge using Abaddon Black. Take your time to cover these areas neatly to provide a strong contrast against the white armor. - Step 3: Red, Bronze, and Blue Details
Use Mephiston Red for the red details, like the head, and other parts of the miniature. For the bronze details, like the bolts, apply Balthasar Gold, and for the small cameras, use Caledor Sky. These colors will add pops of color and visual interest to the Stormsurge. - Step 4: Shading – Adding Depth and Definition
To add depth to the larger parts of the Stormsurge, apply a shade using Nuln Oil. Use a medium-sized brush and apply the shade in the recessed areas, such as the crevices, joints, and deeper parts of the armor. This will create shadows and enhance the three-dimensional appearance of the miniature. - Step 5: Layering – Highlighting the Details
Once the shade is dry, move on to layering. Use Ulthuan Grey to highlight the raised edges and details of the white armor. Take care to emphasize the edges of the armor plates, giving them a subtle, brighter appearance. - Step 6: Highlighting the Grey Details
For the grey details, use Administratum Grey to add highlights. Focus on the edges and protruding parts of these areas, making them stand out more against the white base coat. - Step 7: Highlighting the Black Details
Use Eshin Grey to highlight the black details on the legs and stabilizers. Similar to the previous steps, concentrate on the edges and raised parts for a more pronounced effect. - Step 8: Highlighting the Red, Bronze, and Blue Details
For the red details, apply Evil Sunz Scarlet as a highlight. For the bronze parts, use Sycorax Bronze to bring out their metallic shine. Finally, highlight the small blue details with Altdorf Guard Blue. - Step 9: Weathering – Adding Realism and Grit
To add weathering effects, use Ryza Rust on the metal areas, giving them a worn and weathered appearance. Apply Athonian Camoshade to areas that could use dirt or grime buildup, such as the feet or lower parts of the legs. - Step 10: Varnish for Protection
After you have completed the painting process, consider applying a varnish to protect your hard work and add a finishing touch. Varnish helps seal the paint and provides a protective layer against wear and tear. It also enhances the colors and adds a slight sheen to the miniature.
