How to paint the Hive Tyrant set
- Step 1: Basecoat the Carapace in Naggaroth Night
Start by applying a basecoat of Naggaroth Night to the Hive Tyrant’s carapace using a medium-sized brush. Ensure you cover all the carapace sections and achieve a smooth and even coat. - Step 2: Shade the Carapace with Druchii Violet
Using a fine detail brush, apply Druchii Violet shade over the Naggaroth Night basecoat. Focus on the recessed areas, crevices, and edges of the carapace to create shadows and depth. The Druchii Violet will add a darker hue and enhance the texture of the carapace. - Step 3: Paint the Skin with Rakarth Flesh
Moving on to the skin, use Rakarth Flesh and a medium-sized brush to carefully paint the exposed areas of the Hive Tyrant. Ensure you cover the face, hands, and any other visible skin parts with an even coat of Rakarth Flesh. - Step 4: Highlight the Skin with White Scar
With a fine detail brush, highlight the raised areas of the skin using White Scar. Concentrate on the knuckles, ridges, facial features, and any other prominent areas. This will create contrast and make the skin appear more realistic and detailed. - Step 5: Paint the Weapons with Various Colors
For the Hive Tyrant’s weapons and other details, choose appropriate colors. For example, you can use Ironbreaker for metallic parts, such as blades and gun barrels. Use Abaddon Black for any dark or black details like the weapon grips or the Hive Tyrant’s eyes. - Step 6: Use Red Colors for Details
Select red colors for painting the Hive Tyrant’s weapon details and any other red elements on the model. For example, you can use Mephiston Red or Evil Sunz Scarlet for the weapon blades or other red accents. - Step 7: Highlight the Weapons and Details
After painting the weapons and other details, apply highlights with lighter shades of the respective colors. For example, use Runefang Steel for the edges and raised areas of the metallic parts, and use Eshin Grey for highlighting black details. This will add depth and make the weapons look more striking. - Step 8: Paint the Base
Now it’s time to paint the base of the Hive Tyrant. Use a suitable color like Stirland Mud or Astrogranite texture paint to create a realistic and thematic base. Once dry, you can drybrush the base with lighter colors like Karak Stone to add texture and depth. - Step 9: Varnish the Model
To protect your hard work and give the Hive Tyrant a professional finish, apply a layer of varnish. A matte varnish like Ardcoat will provide a non-shiny appearance, preserving the realistic look of the model. Varnish also helps protect the paint job from chipping, fading, and general wear and tear during gameplay and storage.
