How to paint the Grey Knights Terminator Squad
- Step 1: Prime
Begin by applying a primer to your Grey Knights Terminator Squad. Chaos Black is the ideal choice for a primer, as it provides a strong base for the subsequent layers of paint and complements the dark and intricate details of the Terminators’ armor. - Step 2: Base Colors
Paint the Terminator armor with a metallic silver paint like Leadbelcher. This forms the foundation of their iconic silver armor. - Step 3: Shading
Enhance the depth of the silver armor by applying Drakenhof Nightshade as a shade. Focus on the recesses and crevices of the armor to create shadows. - Step 4: Layering
Lightly layer the silver armor with Ironbreaker, especially on raised surfaces and edges. This adds highlights and dimension to the metallic look. For an extra shine, use Stormhost Silver on the very edges of the armor. - Step 5: Psychic Blue
If your Grey Knights Terminators have exposed heads, paint their faces with a base coat of Rakarth Flesh, apply Reikland Fleshshade for shading, and highlight with Flayed One Flesh. For their iconic glowing blue eyes, use a vibrant blue paint like Caledor Sky. - Step 6: Weaponry
Paint their Nemesis Force Swords and other weapon details with a vibrant blue paint, then add electrifying streaks using Baharroth Blue and White Scar. Apply these streaks diagonally along the length of the weapon to mimic a glowing effect. - Step 7: Red and Gold Details
Use Mephiston Red for red details on their armor, such as trim and insignias. For gold ornamental elements and insignias, use Retributor Armor. - Step 8: Basing
To give your Grey Knights Terminator Squad a solid footing, consider using texture paints for a realistic base. Apply Astrogranite or Stirland Mud texture paint to the base, depending on the desired terrain effect. Once the texture paint is dry, you can further enhance the base by dry brushing it with a lighter color like Karak Stone. This adds depth and highlights to the textured surface, making it look even more realistic. - Step 9: Varnish
To safeguard your beautifully painted Grey Knights Terminator Squad, apply a protective matte varnish like Munitorum Varnish. This not only preserves the vibrancy of their paint job but also ensures their resilience during intense battles. A single coat of varnish is all you need to keep your miniatures in top form.
