Crusaders are a highly esteemed group of warriors in the service of the Inquisitors, often recruited from the Cardinals Crimson, one of the many secretive orders of the Ecclesiarchy. These warriors are chosen for their unwavering loyalty to the Emperor and are considered a great honor to be selected. However, the life of a Crusader is one of austere discipline and martial training, with the knowledge that they will likely meet a heroic death on the battlefield. Despite this, their service guarantees the opportunity to test their skills against the Imperium’s greatest foes.
Each Crusader is equipped with a power sword and a storm shield bearing the Inquisition’s emblems. They wear flak armor and flowing cloaks, decorated with intricate details of the Ecclesiarchy. Crusaders are expected to fight at the forefront of battle, surrounded by their enemies, and their devotion to the Emperor knows no bounds.

How to paint the Crusaders Set
- Step 1: Prime the Miniatures
Apply a thin coat of primer to the Crusader miniatures. Primer helps the paint adhere better and provides a smooth surface for painting. Choose a primer color that complements your desired color scheme. For Crusaders with grey armor, use a light grey or white primer spray. - Step 2: Basecoat the Armor
Using a medium-sized brush, apply a basecoat color to the armor of the Crusaders. For a grey armor, consider using a color like Mechanicus Standard Grey. Thin the paint slightly with water or a medium to achieve smoother coverage. Apply the basecoat evenly, ensuring that the details of the miniatures remain visible. - Step 3: Highlight the Armor
Switch to a smaller brush and carefully apply a lighter grey color, like Dawnstone, to the edges and raised areas of the armor. This step will add depth and dimension to the armor. - Step 4: Paint the Robes
Using a medium-sized brush, apply a basecoat of red to the interior of the robes of the Crusaders. For a vibrant red, consider using colors like Mephiston Red or Evil Sunz Scarlet. Leave the grey armor visible and untouched. - Step 5: Shade the Robes
Using Nuln Oil, carefully apply it to the recessed areas of the red robes. This will create shadows and add definition to the folds of the fabric. Be sure to let the wash dry before proceeding. - Step 6: Highlight the Robes
Using a smaller brush, apply a highlight color like Wazdakka Red to the raised areas of the robes. Focus on the edges and folds to create depth and highlights. - Step 7: Paint the Details
Focus on painting the details of the Crusaders, such as weapons, belts, and other accessories. Use appropriate colors for each detail. For metallic parts, use Leadbelcher or Iron Warriors. For the exterior of the robes, details and straps, consider using colors like Abaddon Black or Rhinox Hide. Apply multiple thin coats and use a small brush to carefully pick out the details. - Step 8: Add Finishing Touches
To complete the painting process, add finishing touches to the Crusaders. Paint any additional details such as the eyes, using a small brush and a bright color like Yriel Yellow or Talassar Blue. Add washes or additional highlights as desired to enhance the details. Use a fine detail brush and steady hands for these final touches.
