As the hunting packs for their Dread Household, War Dog-class Knights are nimble combat walkers equipped with a diverse range of weaponry, serving as vanguards to larger Knights and excelling at eliminating enemy outriders and protecting the flanks of their colossal masters. Among these formidable machines, the War Dog Karnivores stand out, delighting in close-quarters slaughter and instilling terror and confusion on the battlefield, forsaking long-range arms for the thrill of visceral combat.

This multipart plastic kit enables you to assemble two War Dog-class Knights, choosing from the options of War Dog Karnivores, War Dog Stalkers, or War Dog Brigands. The War Dog Karnivores, in particular, make a formidable Lords of War choice, providing invaluable melee support to your Chaos Knights army or serving as a wandering Dreadblade pack for other Chaos forces. Armed with a reaper chaintalon for dispatching infantry and a slaughterclaw for devastating armored foes, Karnivores also feature a carapace-mounted diabolus heavy stubber or havoc multi-launcher, allowing for further customization. With their articulated poses, armor plating, unique faceplates, and accessories, each War Dog Karnivore offers ample opportunities for personalization, especially with their large carapaces providing an engaging painting project.

What’s in the War Dog Karnivores box

  • x220 plastic components that make 2 War Dog Karnivores knights. Alternatively, you can build 2 War Dog Stalkers, or 2 War Dog Brigands.
  • x2 Citadel 100mm Round Bases
  • x1 War Dogs transfer sheet featuring 238 runes, sigils, and iconography for various Dread Households.

How to paint the War Dog Karnivores set

  1. Step 1: Basecoat the model
Start by applying a basecoat of black paint to the entire War Dog Karnivore model. This will provide a solid foundation for the subsequent layers of paint. Chaos Black or Abaddon Black are two good options.
  2. Step 2: Apply the primary color
Choose a vibrant color for the armor plates, such as Mephiston Red or Khorne Red, for a darker look. Paint the armor plates, ensuring smooth and even coverage. This will be the dominant color of your War Dog Karnivores.
  3. Step 3: Highlight the armor
Using a lighter shade of the primary color, like Evil Sunz Scarlet, carefully apply highlights to the edges and raised areas of the armor plates. This technique will add depth and dimension to the model.
  4. Step 4: Detail the weapons
Select a metallic paint, such as Leadbelcher, to paint the weapons, such as the reaper chaintalon and slaughterclaw. Apply the metallic paint to these areas, making sure to capture the metallic sheen and texture.
  5. Step 5: Add weathering effects
To create a battle-worn appearance, use a sponge or a small brush to lightly dab on patches of Typhus Corrosion or a similar paint. This will simulate rust or corrosion on the metallic parts of the War Dog Karnivore.
  6. Step 6: Paint the details
Use various colors to paint the details, such as the spikes, cables, and other smaller components of the model. For example, you can use Abaddon Black for the spikes, Averland Sunset for the cables, and Caliban Green for any exposed wiring.
  7. Step 7: Apply wash for shading
Apply a wash, like Nuln Oil, to the entire model. This will settle into the recesses and crevices, creating shadows and enhancing the overall depth of the War Dog Karnivore.
  8. Step 8: Final touches
Add any additional details you desire, such as squad markings, iconography, or personal touches to make your War Dog Karnivores unique. This is your opportunity to let your creativity shine.
  9. Step 9: Varnish the model
To protect your hard work and give the model a professional finish, apply a coat of varnish. Choose between matte, satin, or gloss varnish depending on the desired effect.
