How to paint the Lord Solar Leontus Set
- Step 1: Prepare your model and workspace
Gather all the necessary materials: Lord Solar Leontus model, brushes, water cup, palette, Citadel Colour paints and a comfortable, well-lit area to work in. Ensure that your model is clean and free from any mold lines or imperfections by carefully removing them with a hobby knife or file. - Step 2: Prime the model
Apply a thin, even coat of primer to the model using a brush or spray. This helps the paint adhere better and provides a consistent surface to work on. For Lord Solar Leontus, you can use Citadel’s Colour Chaos Black spray primer. - Step 3: Basecoat the armor
Start by basecoating the armor with Retributor Armour. Use a medium-sized brush and apply the paint smoothly and evenly, covering all the surfaces. - Step 4: Paint the details
Next, paint the various details on the model. Use Leadbelcher for the metallic parts, such as the sword and pistol. For the cape, you can use Mephiston Red, and for the solar halo on the helm, paint it with Yriel Yellow. Be careful to stay within the lines and apply multiple thin coats if needed for smooth, opaque coverage. - Step 5: Shade the model
To add depth and definition to Lord Solar Leontus, apply shade to the recessed areas. Use Agrax Earthshade for the gold areas, Nuln Oil for the metallic parts, and Carroburg Crimson for the cape. Apply the shade sparingly, focusing on the crevices and shadows. - Step 6: Highlight the model
Now it’s time to bring out the details with highlights. Use techniques such as dry brushing or edge highlighting to add contrast and make the model pop. For the gold areas, highlight with Liberator Gold, for the red cape, use Evil Sunz Scarlet, and for the solar halo, highlight with Flash Gitz Yellow. - Step 7: Paint the base
Don’t forget to paint the base to complement your model. Apply a basecoat of texture paint, such as Agrellan Earth, and add additional details like rocks or grass using suitable Citadel Colour paints. You can also dry brush the base with a lighter color, such as Tyrant Skull, to add dimension. - Step 8: Varnish the model
To protect your hard work and give the model a finished look, apply a layer of varnish. Use Munitorum Varnish – Spray or a similar varnish spray to seal the paint and prevent it from chipping or rubbing off.
