On the TableTop

The Blood Angels have a fearsome weapon in their arsenal – the Dreadnought. It is an armored walker that houses the interred remains of a Blood Angels Librarian. Despite being too broken in body to fight on their own, the Librarian’s powerful mind is still intact and can be a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. The Dreadnought’s unyielding adamantium frame not only protects the remains of the Librarian but also serves as a potent warrior in its own right. Facing this Dreadnought can be just as intimidating as facing the Librarian was in life.

How to paint the Blood Angels Librarian Dreadnought

  1. Step 1: Priming
Begin by preparing your Blood Angels Librarian Dreadnought for painting. Apply Mephiston Red spray paint to prime the entire miniature. Ensure a smooth, even coat to provide a solid base for the subsequent layers.
  2. Step 2: Detailing
Use Abaddon Black to paint any joints, crevices, or any other areas on the Dreadnought that require a black base. Focus on the areas where you want depth and shading.
  3. Step 3: Main Armor Plates
Paint the main armor plates of the Dreadnought with Mephiston Red. Avoid painting over the areas you’ve already detailed in black. This rich red will be the primary color of your Dreadnought.
  4. Step 4: Highlighting
With Evil Sunz Scarlet, carefully add thin lines along the edges and corners of the red armor plates. This will create highlights and add depth to the red sections.
  5. Step 5: Adding Details
Use White Scar to paint any additional details on the Dreadnought, such as any exposed mechanical parts or any custom details you may have added.
  6. Step 6: Metal Parts
Apply Leadbelcher to any metal parts of the armor, ensuring a smooth and even coat.
  7. Step 7: Gold Details
Paint any gold details on the armor with Retributor Armour.
  8. Step 8: Parchment Parts
Use Screaming Skull to paint any parchment-like parts on the Dreadnought.
  9. Step 9: Adding Depth
Apply Nuln Oil as a wash over the entire miniature to create depth and shadows, enhancing the details of the Dreadnought.
  10. Step 10: Highlighting Blue Armor
Carefully add thin lines along the edges and corners of any blue plates, like the sarcophagi with Alaitoc Blue. This will make the blue pop and define the edges.
  11. Step 11: Highlighting Black Parts
Highlight any black areas with Eshin Grey. Use thin lines along edges and corners to create highlights.
  12. Step 12: Highlighting Metal
Enhance any metallic parts with Stormhost Silver. Apply thin lines along edges and corners to make the metal details stand out.
  13. Step 13: Highlighting Gold
Use Liberator Gold to highlight any gold parts with thin lines along the edges and corners. This will make the gold elements shine.
  14. Step 14: Highlighting Parchment
Finish by highlighting any parchment-like parts with Ushabti Bone, creating thin lines along edges and corners to give them depth and definition.
  15. Step 15: Varnish
Once you have completed all the painting steps and are satisfied with the look of your Blood Angels Librarian Dreadnought, it’s essential to protect your hard work. Apply Stormshield varnish as a final step to preserve your paint job and provide a uniform finish. Ensure it’s applied evenly over the entire model and allow it to dry completely as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
