The Emperor’s Champion is a revered warrior selected by the divine will of the Emperor from the ranks of the Black Templars. Clad in the nearly impenetrable Armour of Faith, this fighter uses his Black Sword to strike sweeping blows against enemy generals and heroes.

These implacable warriors possess the ability to withstand numerous wounds and slay countless foes, illuminated in a golden light. Their holy wargear is stored in the Reclusiam of the Black Templars, and should the Champion perish, the Black Templars launch crusades to retrieve the sacred armaments.

What’s in the Emperor’s Champion box

  • x13 plastic components used to assemble 1 Emperor’s Champion.
  • x1 Citadel 40mm round base.

How to paint the Emperor’s Champion

  1. Step 1: Black Base Coat
Start by painting the Emperor’s Champion’s armor using Abaddon Black. This will serve as the base coat for the armor.
  2. Step 2: Adding Gold Details
Next, add the gold details to the armor. Use a metallic gold paint like Golden Griffon for the decorative elements, such as the chapter symbols and other embellishments.
  3. Step 3: White Shoulder Pads
Paint the shoulder pads in a crisp white color like Celestra Grey. This will create a striking contrast against the black armor.
  4. Step 4: Red Details
Add some red details to make certain areas pop. For example, you can use Khorne Red to highlight the edges of the armor or for chapter-specific markings.
  5. Step 5: Red Eye Lenses
Paint the eye lenses on the Emperor’s Champion’s helmet in a vibrant red color like Evil Sunz Scarlet. This will give him an intense and determined gaze.
  6. Step 6: Terminatus Stone Clothing
For the clothing parts, such as robes or capes, use Terminatus Stone to add some depth and texture to these areas.
  7. Step 7: Shading the Armor
To add depth and realism to the black armor, apply a black wash like Nuln Oil to the recesses and crevices. This shading technique will make the details stand out.
  8. Step 8: Highlighting the Armor
Now, use a lighter black or grey shade like Eshin Grey to carefully apply highlights to the edges and raised areas of the armor. This will create a sense of depth and dimension.
  9. Step 9: Sword Details
Paint the sword using the same black you used for the armor and use the same metallic gold paint from before for the decorative details on the blade. If you want to make your sword more unique, you can use Leadbelcher instead and add some Blood For The Blood God on it, for a realistic blood effect.
  10. Step 10: Final Touches
Review your work and make any necessary touch-ups to ensure the colors are clean and consistent. Pay attention to small details to bring out the character of the Emperor’s Champion.
