How to paint the Ghost Ark set
- Step 1: Base Colors
Begin by painting the main body of the Ghost Ark with a metallic paint, like silver or bronze. For instance, you can use Leadbelcher to give it a metallic sheen or Abaddon Black for a stealthy look. Apply it to the framework and the engine parts. - Step 2: Adding Detail
Focus on the intricate areas. Use a contrasting color, like a glowing green, typical for necrons, for the orbs and glyphs. You can apply Tesseract Glow to these areas to make them stand out. - Step 3: Commanding Presence
Paint the Necron Lord sitting atop the Ghost Ark. Use a bronze for the armor, like Brass Scorpion. Apply a lighter color like Skullcrusher Brass, to the details, such as the face, to make them pop. - Step 4: Necron Warriors
Paint the Necron Warriors inside the Ghost Ark. Choose a color for their armor, like Stormhost Silver or Runelord Brass. Apply a wash to add shading and depth. For instance, use Nuln Oil to achieve this effect. - Step 5: Formidable Weapons
Paint the gauss flayers on the sides of the Ghost Ark. Use a metallic paint for the gun barrels, like Leadbelcher or any metallic paint you used earlier. Add a wash (in our case Nuln Oil again) to enhance the details. - Step 6: Highlighting
Add highlights to make the model stand out. Use a lighter metallic color, like Runefang Steel, on edges and raised parts. Apply a small amount to create a shiny effect. - Step 7: Final Touches
Add any additional details you want, like decals or insignias. Use a fine brush to paint small symbols or lines. You can use contrasting colors to make them visible. Warpstone glow, Moot Green are some good options that fit the theme of this faction. - Step 8: Seal and Protect
Finish by applying a varnish to protect your paintwork. This also gives the model a uniform finish.
