How to paint the Big Mek in Mega Armour set
- Step 1: Basecoat the Armor
Start by applying a basecoat of Averland Sunset to the Big Mek’s mega armor. Use a brush to cover all the armor plates with this bright yellow color, ensuring a smooth and even application. - Step 2: Paint the Clothing
Next, paint the clothing and other fabric areas with Mephiston Red. This includes any cloth patches, capes, or other elements that you want to stand out in a vibrant red hue. - Step 3: Choose Helmet Colors
For Big Meks wearing helmets, decide on the helmet color. You can go for a striking contrast with a black helmet using Abaddon Black and intricate details. - Step 4: Detail the Metallic Parts
Use metallic or silver colors like Leadbelcher to paint any metal parts of the Big Mek’s armor and weaponry. This includes the kustom mega-blasta, power klaw, and any other metallic components. - Step 5: Highlight the Armor
To make the mega armor pop, apply a lighter yellow color like Yriel Yellow as a highlight. Use a fine brush to accentuate the edges and raised areas, adding dimension and depth to the armor plates. - Step 6: Weathering and Rust
For a battle-worn appearance, add weathering and rust effects to the mega armor. Use paints like Typhus Corrosion and Ryza Rust to simulate wear and tear on the armor plates and metal parts. - Step 7: Add Other Colors and Details
Use additional colors like gold or other metallic/silver shades for belts, straps, and other small features to add flair and visual interest to the model. - Step 8: Base the Model
Create a suitable base for your Big Mek to stand on. You can use textured paints, tufts, rocks, or other scenic elements to represent the terrain he’s standing on. - Step 9: Varnish for Protection
Once you are satisfied with the paint job, apply a varnish like Ardcoat to protect the model. A matte varnish like Ardcoat will give the miniatures a realistic finish, while protecting the paint job from chipping and wear during gameplay and storage.
