On the TableTop

In the dark void of space, the Hive Crone unfurls its membranous wings, a grotesque creation born from the insatiable hunger of the Tyranids. Known as the harbinger of terror, this flying monstrosity is unleashed upon prey worlds, where it casts a sinister shadow over the battlefield, establishing complete air superiority.

Within its monstrous form, the Hive Crone houses a sack-fed drool cannon, a vile weapon that oozes corrosive fluids, capable of reducing its unfortunate victims to mere morsels. Its head, adorned with a menacing crest and a series of fins, grants it enhanced agility and maneuverability, allowing it to grapple and bring down enemy aircraft with terrifying ease.

The creature’s armored carapace bristles with chimneys, billowing darkened smoke as it swoops through the skies, adding to its nightmarish visage.
Additionally, the Hive Crone offers the option to customize the model with 4 tentaclids underneath, adding even more terror to its already imposing figure.

How to paint the Hive Crone set

  1. Step 1: Basecoat the Carapace
Begin by basecoating the carapace of the Hive Crone with a color of your choice. We will use Caliban Green. For this step we recommend you use a medium-sized brush for smooth application.
  2. Step 2: Shading the Carapace
Apply a wash, such as Biel-Tan Green, to the carapace to add depth and enhance the shadows. Use a fine detail brush to carefully apply the wash, ensuring it settles into the recesses of the carapace.
  3. Step 3: Highlight the Carapace
Once the wash has dried, highlight the raised areas of the carapace with a lighter green color, such as Warpstone Glow. Use a fine detail brush to carefully pick out the edges and contours, creating a subtle gradient effect.
  4. Step 4: Paint the Wings
For the wings, choose a pale color like Celestra Grey and apply it evenly to the surface. Use thin layers and multiple coats if necessary to achieve smooth coverage.
  5. Step 5: Apply a Wash to the Wings
To add depth to the wings, apply a wash specifically designed for light colors, such as Drakenhof Nightshade. Apply the wash selectively to the recesses of the wings, allowing it to flow naturally and create shadows.
  6. Step 6: Highlight the Wings
Once the wash has dried, highlight the raised areas of the wings with a lighter grey color, such as Ulthuan Grey. Use a fine detail brush to carefully pick out the prominent features, adding subtle highlights.
  7. Step 7: Paint the Fins and Crest
For the fins and crest on the head, use a bright color like Mephiston Red. Apply the paint carefully to these areas to make them stand out.
  8. Step 8: Add Details
Add additional colors or details to other elements of the Hive Crone, such as the chimneys and tentaclids, using appropriate colors to enhance the overall appearance.
  9. Step 9: Varnish
Apply a matte varnish to the entire model to protect the paintwork and provide a uniform finish.
